Welcome to Sunshine State Forge

My name is Ben Chatterton, and I am a farrier dedicated to upholding and advancing a family tradition that has been passed down for over two centuries. My journey into the world of farriery began long before I was even aware of it; as a young boy, I accompanied my father, Shaun Chatterton, on countless calls, observing the precision, care, and dedication required in this craft. Farriery isn’t just a profession for me—it’s a legacy, a passion deeply embedded in my bloodline.

Our family’s history as farriers traces back over 200 years, each generation contributing to the wealth of knowledge and expertise that has shaped who I am today. This generational knowledge, combined with a passion for the welfare of horses, drives me to continue this proud tradition with the same level of commitment and excellence that my ancestors demonstrated.

As I grew up, my learning extended beyond just my father. I had the privilege of going shoeing with my grandad, my uncle, and my cousin, each of whom brought their own unique insights and techniques to the craft. These experiences not only expanded my practical skills but also deepened my connection to our family’s rich farriery heritage. Whether it was watching my grandad’s steady hand, learning the finer points of hoof balance from my uncle, or discussing the latest innovations with my cousin, each moment reinforced the values of hard work, precision, and respect for the horses we care for.

Throughout my career, I have continued to hone my skills, blending these time-honored techniques with modern innovations to ensure that every horse receives the best possible care. I understand that each horse is unique, and I take great pride in tailoring my services to meet the specific needs of every animal I work with.

What sets my approach apart is not just the technical expertise, but the deep respect and understanding I have for horses. I believe that farriery is as much about building a relationship with the horse as it is about skillful craftsmanship. My commitment to this philosophy has helped me build a reputation for reliability, trustworthiness, and outstanding service within the equestrian community.

I am honored to carry forward the Chatterton family legacy, and I am passionate about continuing to learn and grow in this craft. I am driven by the same determination and love for farriery that has fueled my family for generations. My mission is to ensure that every horse under my care receives the highest standard of treatment, contributing to their overall health, performance, and well-being.

Originally based in Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, I became a qualified farrier after completing my studies at Moreton Morrell in Warwickshire. I followed a strategic course and served my apprenticeship under the guidance of my father, Shaun Chatterton. After gaining extensive experience, I embarked on a successful self-employed career in the UK, serving clients for five years. In pursuit of new opportunities and challenges, I took the plunge in 2024 and emigrated to Wellington, Florida, where I continue to apply my skills and expertise in farriery.
